Gypsum

Tanzania has significant gypsum deposits, particularly in the Lindi region, with locations like Kiranjeranje, Pindiro, and Mbane. These deposits are considered to be among the purest in the world, with purity levels reaching 90%. The gypsum is used locally in industries like cement manufacturing, gypsum board production, and ceramic tile manufacturing.
Key Aspects of Gypsum Mining in Tanzania:
· Location: Lindi Region, specifically areas near Kiranjeranje, Pindiro, and Mbane.

· Purity: Deposits are known for high purity, up to 90%.
· Usage: Supplies local industries, including cement factories, gypsum board manufacturers, and ceramic tile makers.
· Mining Methods: Gypsum mining in Tanzania often involves drilling and blasting.
· Challenges: Transportation can be difficult due to rough terrain and bad roads, particularly in areas like Kiranjeranje.
· Economic Impact: The gypsum industry contributes to the regional and national economy, with miners and industry owners needing to find ways to collaborate and benefit from the resource.
· Contractor Requirements: Companies like Knauf Tanzania often seek competitive contractors for gypsum mining, as demonstrated in their recent bidding process for the Pindiro mine.
