Murram

MURRAM mining in Tanzania, involves the extraction of a rocky soil rich in iron and aluminum used for road construction. This “laterite” (as it’s known outside East Africa) is a significant source of revenue for some local economies. The Tanzanian government has been actively supporting small-scale mining, including murram extraction, by establishing mineral markets, providing equipment, and issuing licenses.
Here’s a more detailed look:
· Murram’s Use:
Murram is a key material for road construction and is also used in the construction of houses in tropical regions.
· Government Support:
The Tanzanian government is actively involved in supporting small-scale mining operations, including those extracting murram.
· Mineral Markets:
The government has established mineral markets and buying centers to facilitate trade and ensure fair prices for small-scale miners, including those involved in murram mining.
· Mining Licenses:
The government has issued numerous mining licenses, including those for murram extraction, to support and regulate the industry.
· Revenue:
Murram mining contributes to local economies, generating income for various groups and individuals involved in the process.
